ARCh (Assisted Reading for Children)

ARCh (Assisted Reading for Children), Local registered charity which recruits, trains and supports volunteers to work one-to-one with children in  primary schools across Oxfordshire, the aim being to inspire them to develop a life-enhancing love of reading.

After successfully completing our application, interview and vetting process volunteers are assigned to a local primary school which they visit twice a week during the school day  (usually early afternoon).

Schools select 3 children for each volunteer to work with and they spend a “happy half hour” together sharing books. games and conversation. The charity supplies all the resources for volunteers, personalised to suit the individual children.

Volunteers commit to working with the same children for an entire year at the end of which schools note huge improvements, not only in reading skills but also confidence, self-esteem and attitude to learning.

ARCh (Assisted Reading for Children) staff team provides top class for supports volunteers throughout and it really is a life changing experience for both children and  volunteers alike!
